The Reckoning

Happy Easter everyone, and Happy Long Weekend to those who just wanna drink!
****************

The Reckoning documentary night was deemed a success, many thanks to those who came out. I had a great time working with the Canadian Center for International Justice Toronto working group and they should be given a round of applause for all their hard work (everyone involved in the working group are volunteers and just want to make this world a better place). Johanna MacDonald took a risk by putting on this movie night but she wants to get the word out about the ICC and the CCIJ as well as other groups who are devoted to helping victims of atrocities as well as others who want to bring peace and justice for everyone.

What I've Learned

This is my 3rd event so far that I've helped out with and although I didn't have too much responsibility, I've learned so much because this was my first movie event.
  1. I learned that there are a lot of people out there who have an interest in helping others, it's just sometimes hard to get their attention and come out to events.
  2. Print media such as Now Magazine, Eye Weekly etc let you put your event listing for free, you just need it 1 week before publication (such as the Thursday before for Now Magazine)
  3. If you do an event at Bloor Cinema, they put your movie in their own newspaper/newsletter

I also want to let you know (if you don't know already) that social networking sites such as facebook and twitter aren't reliable anymore. It's only real purpose now is to let a mass amount of people know about your event, however people forget in about a week. I think I am going to try to use the more traditional methods (newspapers, radio, posters) because it may be as effective, if not more so, than the social networking sites.

Here are some more photos from the event:

So that's it for now, the next event will be Thursday Thursday on April 8th so watch out for that. After, April 11, 2010 will be the next event for the CCIJ and the Sorpotist that I am helping organize as well.

Peace!

Sarah
