Thursday Thursday Review - March 25

School work can be such a drag.
**********

First off I'd like to say that I had an amazing time on Thursday and to all who came and saw the show you can probably say you had a great time too! (Congrats Antony and Blake)

Now on to business. There were some pretty talented bands up there and although I have to admit I didn't stay the whole night, from what I heard the rest of the bands were pretty good as well.

The first band of the night I heard was the Ramona http://www.myspace.com/ramonahq. They were a pretty solid band; they kind of gave me a nostalgic feeling of listening to bands back in high school but with a modern touch. All in plaid, these guys knew how to keep there audience engaged and put on a great performance. Kudos.

The next band up was Bitter City http://www.myspace.com/bittercity. It was refreshing to see these girls rocking it up onstage. They were off to a rough start (there were some technical problems) but ever the professionals, played right through to the end to finish off a solid set list. Their sound was pretty close to the Romona's sound, which made the flow from one band to the other band seamless.

Now, the Dildoniks http://www.myspace.com/dildoniks have been a favourite of mine and I've heard them already before. They are an energetic group of guys with a love for music and always put on a great show. Considered Surfer rock in my books, their music was definitely different from the first two bands but because of the continued flow of energy from each band there wasn't any problems.

I have to say sorry to Reverse Mount Rushmore http://www.myspace.com/reversemountrushmore. Unfortunetly I wasn't able to stay all night and missed your performance. Hopefully I'll be able to catch you guys at another show and write about you!

Here are some more pictures from the night:

If there's anything else you guys would like to add, please write your comments, I'd love to hear from you guys! Hope to see you guys at the next concert! And a very special thanks to Antony and Blake for helping promote my blog as well as putting on great shows. Keep up the great work guys!

Reminders:

  • If there are any events you would like me to cover and promote please message me!

  • This Wed, March 31 is the documentary night at the Bloor Cinema showing, "The Reckoning". It's presented by the Canadian Center for International Justice and all proceeds will be going towards the charity. For more information please find us on facebook or message me for more details.

Spread the word guys,

Thursday Thursday

My first event coverage will be for my awesome buddy, Antony East! Thursday Thursdays have been going on for a while now and have always had an excellent turn out. These guys promote mainly Toronto based bands (which is a great way for exposing Toronto talent!) and know how to run a kick ass show. Here's the list for this Thursday, March 25, 2010:

Reverse Mount Rushmore - http://www.myspace.com/reversemountrushmore

Dildoniks - http://www.myspace.com/dildoniks

Bitter City - http://www.myspace.com/bittercity

Ramona - http://www.myspace.com/ramonahq

Doors are at 8:30pm and cover, as always, is $5! It's at Rancho Relaxo (300 College St.) which has a great reputation for showcasing up-and-coming talent. You get your basic bar run by a great bartender but just a heads up, there usually is only 1 guy working the bar. Amazing as he is, there's only so much he can do, so be patient and courteous and remember, Always Tip your server!

The artwork (done by Tommy P) is just one of many different posters for the event so keep your eyes peeled for them around Toronto and if you want more information just leave a message and I'll get back to you!

That's it for this week's event listing. Keep checking for more around Toronto and remember, if you want me to write about your event link me!

Xoxo,

Sarah

The Reckoning

This is an event for the Canadian Center for International Justice (http://www.ccij.ca/) that I am helping organize. I am working with the CCIJ Toronto working group and so far its been a lot of fun. We are organizing a documentary night that will feature "The Reckoning" which is a doc about the international court systems. It will be playing at the Bloor Cinema on March 31
at 7pm. This event will be mainly for gaining awareness about the CCIJ (it's head office is in Ottawa). Join our facebook group The Reckoning.

There haven't been a lot to actually prep for this event: so far we just needed to secure the date/time, venue cost and what our ad would look like. Currently, I am putting up our posters everywhere in the Annex area but also around different school campuses (be on the look out!) This is an exciting event for us because this will be one of the first events hosted by the CCIJ!

Wish us luck!! If you have any ideas or comments please leave =D Oh and if you would like me to feature, promote or write about your event just leave me a message!

Keep me posted

First Post

Welcome to my blog! Here is where I will put up pictures, lessons and current events that I'm working on in hopes to not only raise awareness to the events I'm working on but to also help those who are looking for advice and help with organizing an event.

So now a little about myself,

I'm a marketing student with aspirations of either working in an events company/marketing department. I decided to organize events because it's not a typical marketing/business job. It's fun, exciting and can be very rewarding in the end (both financially and emotionally). My first few events have been charity events (which I do for free) to gain some experience but also to give back to those who need it. So far I've organized/helped organize events for Toronto East General Hospital and St. Michael's Hospital. I am also currently working on a couple of events for the Canadian Center for International Justice.

I will be posting photo's of the 2 events and if anyone would like to know more about how I organized it I will be happy to put up a post of the steps and all my encounters.

Oh and I don't do it alone. I usually partner up with someone who is passionate about the event/cause. I find that this is important because who you work with should invest as much time and energy as you are.

That's it for now!
